"Do I Need to Take Cover" Challenge

This challenge tests your ability to recognize if your location is threatened by a hazard, and if so, when to take protective action. Government warnings alone are insufficient for this, as they tend to be too large, and last too long, resulting in a false alarm issue.

If you struggle with interpretation of radar imagery, particularly velocity imagery, there is a simple 2-hour course you could access using the link at the bottom of the page. It aims to help you utilize real-time radar imagery to know if and when to take cover for an approaching storm hazard, and to make better decisions than using warnings alone.
